Ruth’s lifelong love of the ocean keeps her motivated as the director of WhaleTimes, Inc<\/span><\/a>. Ruth is the driving force behind WhaleTimes’ creative team. In her usual unusual approach to science, WhaleTimes continues to achieve its goals of connecting kids with ocean animals and ocean research while raising awareness of conservation issues through programs such as the wildly successful holiday Hagfish Day<\/span><\/a>, Creep into the Deep<\/span><\/a>, and Fintastic Friday: Giving Sharks a\u00a0Voice!<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

Ruth is also a proud member of many research projects. Current projects include sharing deep-sea vent research with Tammy Frank (NSU) and the exciting research of newly discovered deep-sea coral reefs with Amy Baco-Taylor (FSU), Brendan Roark (TAMU), and Katie Shamberger (TAMU). Both projects funded by NSF grant. Past projects include the DEEPEND Research Consortium<\/a>, a consortium of amazing scientists and organizations studying the Gulf of Mexico deep sea. DEEPEND research was sponsored by the Gulf of Mexico Research Institute (GOMRI) which funded follow-up research to determine the effects of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. \"\"<\/a>She was also leading the k-6th grade education component of the Journey into Midnight: Light and Life Below the Twilight Zone<\/a> funded by NOAA-OER.\u00a0 That’s the research team that captured live footage of a giant squid in the deep sea.<\/p>\n
