  • June 2019: Journey to Midnight: Light and Life Below the Twilight Zone: Exploration of life and light in the water column below 1000m; Ruth (WhaleTimes) will share the research of Dr. Sönke Johnsen; Dr. Tamara Frank; Dr. Tracey Sutton; Dr. Edith Widder; and Dr. Heather Judkins as they explore Sigsbee Deep in the Gulf of Mexico. (funded by NOAA-OER)
  • May 2019: 34th Oregon Writing Festival: writing workshops for 4-5th graders;  Portland State University
  • April 2019: Washington Library Association/Oregon Library Association conference; Vancouver, Washington
  • October 2018:  Deep See in the Deep-Sea: Vision and Bioluminescence in the Deep.  Third year of NSF grant to share ocean science with k-6th graders in Broward County, FL. Talked to 500+ students!
  • Summer 2018: Skypes with various summer camps throughout the country answering questions about sharks
  • April 2018: School visit to Redlands, CA  (awesome k-5th grade students and teachers! Loved how much these kids know!)
  • March 2018: school visits to schools in Sisters, Oregon (Amazing k-8th grade kids, and teachers. Wow, what an inspiring week.)
  • February 2018: presented poster at 2018 Ocean Sciences Meeting entitled “Adding a New Audience to Deep-Sea Research: Making a Splash with Elementary School Children”
  • October 2017:  Deep See in the Deep-Sea: Vision and Bioluminescence in the Deep.  Cool workshop for Broward County, FL k-6th grade schools. Talked to 500+ students!
